Yamini — Black Ajrakh-Inspired Modal Saree | Awadhalaya

Yamini is a deep black — the kind that makes every colour set against it glow — cut so the drape reads as two distinct halves rather than one repeating field.

The print splits the saree in two. The upper body is ajrakh-inspired: floral buti in madder red and indigo. The lower body switches register completely, into a graphic black-and-cream zigzag. A madder-red ajrakh-inspired border runs the length of both; the pallu closes with bands of fine geometry and tassels.

• FABRIC & FEEL
  A soft modal blend that falls in a close, fluid line instead of standing away from the body. The sheen is low and even — nearer satin than shine. Comfortable to keep on from a morning through to an evening.
• THE PRINT
  Two vocabularies in one drape. Up top, the ajrakh-inspired idiom — buti in the traditional madder-red-and-indigo palette on black. Below, a hard black-and-cream zigzag that owes nothing to ajrakh and works as its counterweight. The pallu resolves both into bands of fine geometric motifs.
• BEST WORN FOR
  The black saree you reach for when you want the outfit to carry itself — a workday, a long lunch, a house full of people. Weight the silver a little heavier and it moves into evening without another change.
• STYLING
  Oxidised silver is the natural match: a wide choker, a pair of jhumkas, a stack of bangles, and the two-part print left to do the talking. The blouse shown is a matching ajrakh-inspired print (inclusion to be confirmed; shown here for styling).
• CARE
  Best kept to dry cleaning. Like most natural-dye prints, the colour can be tender the first few washes — no harsh detergent, no long soak, dried out of direct sun.
• WHY WE CHOSE THIS PRODUCT
  The half-and-half layout is what caught us. Plenty of black sarees stay quiet; the jump from soft floral buti to a hard zigzag gives this one movement without shouting. On the modal it still drapes easy, and the black holds a busy print together rather than fighting it.
