Surekha — Red Modal Silk Ajrakh Saree | Hand Block Print | Awadhalaya
The print that carries centuries. The fabric that moves like water.
⚠ Note: Images feature a black blouse for styling purposes. This saree includes a coordinated printed Ajrakh blouse piece.
Ajrakh is not a print. It is a conversation between the artisan and the cloth — built in layers, block by block, colour by colour, over days.
The resist is applied first. Then the base. Then the colours, each requiring its own drying time, its own moment. Then the final block, which brings the geometry into focus. By the time Surekha is finished, it has passed through more than a dozen hands.
What you see in this saree is the result of that process. Deep madder red — the colour of iron-rich earth, of something old and assured. Across the body, large botanical buta motifs in indigo blue and cream: stylised flowers and fans, each one slightly different from the last because no two hand block impressions are ever perfectly identical. This is not a flaw. It is the signature of the craft.
The pallu shifts into another world entirely. A dense geometric lattice — indigo blue octagonal medallions, layered bands of pattern, cream resist lines holding everything together. The kind of pallu that you notice, quietly, from across a room.
The fabric is modal silk — fluid and breathable. It falls in deep, languid folds. It catches light at unexpected angles. It does not crease easily.
A solid black border runs along every edge. Multi-coloured tassels finish the pallu hem — indigo blue, red and cream — the small handmade detail that marks it as something considered.
Crafted in limited small-batch production. Once this batch is gone, restock is not guaranteed.
