Story
Kusum is the safflower — the little blossom whose petals give a warm marigold dye. We gave the name to this saree for exactly that: the colour of turmeric and festival mornings, in a cotton soft as muslin.
Description
"The colour of marigolds, the ease of cotton."
Some colours feel like an occasion. This one feels like an occasion you can have on a Tuesday.
Kusum is a soft mul cotton — the lightest, most fluid kind, matte and fine, the sort of cloth that drapes like water and feels like almost nothing through a long day. It's a warm marigold yellow, plain and even, finished with a fine gold-toned border and soft tassels at the pallu.
The colour does the work: warm enough to feel considered, easy enough for an ordinary day. It carries from a working morning to an evening out on nothing more than a change of jewellery.
Shown here with a teal block-print blouse and oxidised silver — a cool contrast that lets the marigold sing.
