Chandrika — Silver Tissue Saree with Maroon Border | Awadhalaya
Like moonlight — only quieter.
Moonlight has a colour — somewhere between silver and still water — and it only shows up for a few minutes each evening. Chandrika is woven to hold onto it.
This is a saree for the hour after sunset: quiet, luminous, and entirely sure of itself without ever raising its voice.
- FABRIC & FEEL
A silver-toned tissue with a fine, light-catching crinkle and a soft, fluid fall. It is a sheer weave — closer to air than to cloth — so it drapes light and moves with you. Being sheer, it is best worn over a well-fitted petticoat or slip in a matching tone.
- BORDER
A single fine line of maroon runs along both edges of the drape — the one warm note against all that silver, and the thing that quietly holds the whole saree together.
- PALLU
The pallu carries the same silver tissue with subtle self-toned woven motifs catching the light, finishing in the same maroon edge. In daylight it reads soft and pale; under lamps it comes properly alive.
- BEST WORN FOR
Evening events, weddings, festive gatherings, receptions, pujas that run into the night — any occasion where you'd like to feel a little radiant without dressing loudly.
- STYLING
Shown here with a black Kalamkari-print blouse, which lets the silver sit forward, and oxidised silver jhumkas. The blouse shown is for styling and is not the included blouse. Because the weave is sheer, pair it with a fitted petticoat in ivory or a soft grey.
- CARE
Tissue is a delicate weave — professional dry clean is recommended for longevity. If you do hand-wash, wash separately in cold water, never wring or scrub, and dry flat in shade. Store folded with a soft cloth between layers.
- WHY WE CHOSE THIS PRODUCT
Most silver tissue sarees try very hard to be seen. This one doesn't. We chose Chandrika because it does the difficult thing — it shimmers, but quietly. It reads as light rather than glitter, the kind of saree you reach for when you want the evening to feel a little special and would rather the cloth not announce it for you. That restraint is rare in a festive piece, and it's exactly the kind of everyday-occasion balance Awadhalaya is built around.
